Robert Bellwood Pallister [p.1.6.3.1.1.5.10]

Robert Bellwood Pallister was the tenth child of William Speed Pallister & Mary Bellwood born July 8th,1882 at Gosforth, Northumberland.

In 1891 Robert was living at home with his parents & brothers & sisters at 26 Melton Terr, New Hartley, Seaton Delaval, Northumberland.

The family had moved by 1901, they were now at 1 North View, Wallbottle, Tyneside. Robert was still living at home & working as a railway set rider.

Robert married Margaret Ann Jennings in Oct-December 1907 at Castle Ward, Northumberland. Margaret was born May 5th, 1886 at Seaton Burn, Northumberland.

In 1911 Robert & Margaret (known as Polly) were living at 47 Princes St, North Shields & Robert was a policeman for the Borough of Tynemouth. They had 2 children – Robert Bellwood (2) & Alan Pallister (1).

In Jan-March 1912 a third son, William Speed, was born. Sadly he only lived until the age of 24. William died from injuries received at the B. & C.L. Motor Transport Company, North Shields, when a rim flew off a lorry wheel while a heavy tyre was being removed. (Hartlepool Northern Daily Mail, March 5th, 1936) On his death on March 4th, 1936 at 80 Drummond Terrace, North Shields, administration of his effects were granted to his father Robert (described as a retired police constable) & his mother Margaret. His effects were £307.17s.10d.

Son Robert married Sarah H Booth in July-September 1929 at York. In 1939 Robert & Sarah were living at 6 Middle Rd, York where Robert was a marine engineer.

The 1939 register shows Robert & Margaret living at 80 Drummond Terrace, Tynemouth & Robert was described as a retired police officer & was in the Tynemouth Police Reserve. With them was son Harold who was a schoolboy.

Son Alan was living at 69 Verne Rd, Tynemouth, at the time of the 1939 register & was a water clerk & warehouseman. He & wife, Jane Purvis, had just married earlier that year.

The 1939 register shows son John Douglas had become a police constable & was living at 6 Borough Rd, Jarrow. He was to marry Agnes F Chapman on February 19th, 1941 at Christ Church, Jarrow. Picture below from Newcastle Journal, February 20th, 1941.

Daughter Irene married Charles S Hunt, a warrant engineer in the Royal Navy, on September 21st, 1943 at St Augustin’s Church, North Shields, Northumberland. Photo below from Newcastle Journal of September 22nd, 1943.

Robert of 69 Verne Rd, North Shields, died on November 18th, 1959, aged 77. Probate was granted in London on January 13th, 1960 to son John Douglas, police officer & Mrs Irene Hunt. His effects were £1,896.18s.11d.
